  • New overarching vision identified, developer-led engagement

    November 2019

    In 2019, the Council (as developer) approved an overarching vision for the Masterplan. The Firepool team then undertook developer consultation on an early draft of the Masterplan in November 2019. For clarity, this consultation was pre-involvement of the Local Planning Authority (LPA) and in relation to proposals which had not been informed by engagement with key stakeholders or endorsed by the LPA.

    March 2021

    The Firepool team (developer) began developing the Masterplan proposals, initially with the intention of preparing a Local Development Order for the site.

    November 2022

    In March 2021, the developer team first engaged officers of the Local Planning Authority with a developer draft, informed by the developer-led engagement, shared in June 2021. A Planning Performance Agreement signed in November 2021 set out a process for resolving these key issues and agreeing the Masterplan. Since that point, the Firepool team and the LPA have met regularly and worked in a structured way to resolve key issues, engage key stakeholders, take emerging proposals via the Council’s Quality Review Panel and move the Masterplan forward to this point.

    2030?

    Delivery within the Masterplan area has already begun with the Innovation Centre already under construction, work on raising levels across the site beginning in November and work on the new access off Trenchard Way scheduled to begin in January 2023. Delivery of this complex site is likely to take 10 years to complete. Phasing and delivery timescales for different parcels are not yet fully known.
